Kathleen Burns-Jager PhD, LLP, LMFTCounselor
Kathleen is a licensed marriage & family therapist and a limited licensed master’s level psychologist with the State of Michigan. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from Loyola University of Chicago (1992); a Master’s in Counseling from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida (1996); and a doctorate in Couple & Family Therapy/Family & Child Ecology from Michigan State University (2002). Kathleen has worked in residential, outpatient, community based and academic settings, specializing in work with individuals and families who struggle with complex trauma, social marginalization and court involvement. Overall she enjoys assisting individuals, couples and families who are working through a variety of stressors including grief and loss, adjustment to change, depression, anxiety, trauma and interpersonal difficulties. Her counseling approach integrates family systems, human development, communication-based and cognitive behavioral approaches. Kathleen believes that counseling is about understanding, developing and strengthening ourselves and our relationships.
Outside of work at MSU, Kathleen likes to be active. She keeps busy with a variety of interests and activities that often include running, swimming and having adventures with family and friends. She is married and has two sons, a daughter and a stepdaughter.
